Drone rental guide

Drone on rent in India: what to check, and when to buy instead.

By the NVX engineering team, New Delhi

Renting a drone makes sense for a one-off shoot, a trial before you buy, or a short survey job. But a rented drone comes with rules and damage terms that catch many people out. NVX does not rent drones; this guide explains what to check if you rent, and when buying works out better.

Before you rent a drone, check

Get these in writing from the rental company.

Registration

A drone above 250 g must have a UIN on Digital Sky. Ask to see it.

Who flies it

Will you fly it, or does a pilot come with it? Most paid work with drones above 250 g needs a pilot with a Remote Pilot Certificate.

Damage and crash terms

Ask what you pay if it crashes, is lost or comes back with a damaged gimbal, and how they decide that.

Deposit and ID

Most rentals take a deposit and ID proof. Check when the deposit comes back.

Batteries and accessories

Count the batteries, propellers, charger and memory card at pick-up and note any scratches.

Insurance

Ask whether the drone has third-party insurance and what it covers.

Where you plan to fly

Renting does not change the airspace rules. Green zones allow flight up to 400 ft without permission; yellow and red zones need permission on Digital Sky first. Large parts of Delhi are yellow or red zones around the airports and the central restricted area.

Renting or buying: which is better?

A simple way to decide.

Rent

For one shoot, a trial of a model, or a job that needs a drone you will never use again.

Buy

If you will fly more than a few times a year, buying usually costs less overall, and you know the drone's history.

Buy used

A second hand drone can be a middle path; read our checklist first.

Hire an operator

For professional results with no flying on your side, hire a certified operator instead.

Buying instead, at NVX

NVX Drone Store in Connaught Place, New Delhi, sells DJI drones on order: tell us the model and combo and we confirm the price and delivery time. We also sell NVX's own Indian made drones and repair drones from any seller.

FAQ

Drone on Rent: common questions

Can I get a drone on rent in Delhi?

Rental companies and some photographers rent drones in Delhi. NVX does not rent drones. Before renting, check the UIN, the damage terms and whether the place you want to fly is a green zone.

Do I need a licence to fly a rented drone?

Not for a nano drone (up to 250 g) flown for fun. Most paid work with drones above 250 g needs a Remote Pilot Certificate.

What happens if a rented drone crashes?

That depends on the rental agreement. Read the damage terms before you sign. NVX repairs crashed DJI and other drones, with a quote before any work.

Is it better to rent or buy a drone?

Rent for a one-off job or a trial. Buy if you will fly more than a few times a year.

Does NVX rent drones?

No. NVX sells drones (DJI on order, and NVX's Indian made drones), repairs drones, and offers drone survey and mapping.
