Flying, setup and travel are partly fixed costs, so larger areas cost less per acre. A small plot often has a minimum charge.

A standard drone mapping survey in India is commonly quoted at roughly ₹500 to ₹1,500 per acre, and the rate per acre falls as the area grows. High-accuracy, thermal or LiDAR work costs more. The real price depends on your site, the accuracy you need and the outputs you want, so here is how to read a quote and compare providers fairly.

Two sites of the same size can have very different quotes. These are the main reasons.
Flying, setup and travel are partly fixed costs, so larger areas cost less per acre. A small plot often has a minimum charge.
Planning maps can be flown quickly. Engineering-grade surveys need RTK positioning and ground control points (GCPs), which add field time.
Hills, dense trees, water, tall structures and restricted access mean more flights, more GCPs and sometimes a second visit.
An orthomosaic alone costs less than a package with contours, DEM/DSM, volumes, 3D models and CAD/GIS files.
Standard camera mapping is the base price. Thermal inspection and LiDAR use costlier equipment and usually cost more.
Green-zone sites need no extra permission; yellow or red zones need approval on DigitalSky, which adds planning time.
Construction progress or stockpile monitoring is often priced per visit, and regular schedules can lower the rate.
Ask every provider to put these in writing so you compare like with like.
The exact area they will fly (KML or map), not just the number of acres.
Whether RTK and GCPs are used, and the accuracy the report will state.
For example: orthomosaic (GeoTIFF), contours (DXF/SHP), DEM, volume report, 3D model.
Who checks the airspace zone, who applies for permission if needed, and that a certified remote pilot flies.
Flying date, processing time and delivery date.
Travel outside the city, re-flights caused by weather, or extra revisions.
From our experience planning survey flights, a few steps save money without losing quality.
A KML or marked map avoids flying more than you need.
If you only need an updated site map, you may not need a full 3D model.
Ask for survey-grade accuracy where engineers need it, and planning-grade elsewhere.
Several nearby sites, or a fixed monthly schedule, usually lower the per-acre rate.
FAQ
Standard drone mapping is commonly quoted at about ₹500 to ₹1,500 per acre, falling for larger areas. High-accuracy, thermal and LiDAR surveys cost more. Ask for a written quote for your site.
Setup, travel, ground control and processing take similar time whatever the size, so a small plot carries a higher cost per acre or a minimum charge.
For larger or hard-to-reach sites it is often faster, and it captures far more detail. For very small plots or legal boundary work, a conventional survey may still be needed. Compare quotes for your case.
With RTK and ground control points, drone surveys can reach centimetre-level accuracy suitable for engineering. Without them, maps are best for planning and progress tracking.
In green zones no extra permission is needed; yellow and red zones need approval on DigitalSky, and the drone must be registered and flown by a certified remote pilot. Check the latest rules on digitalsky.dgca.gov.in.
