Indian drones
By the NVX engineering team, New Delhi
Not yet in the way most people mean. DJI is a Chinese company that sells a huge range of small consumer camera drones worldwide. Indian drone companies have grown fast since 2021, but most build enterprise, agriculture, survey, security and defence drones rather than pocket camera drones. Here is what Indian makers do build, and what that means if you want a made in India drone.

Indian makers mostly focus on work drones, where local service, rules and procurement matter most.
Inspection, surveillance and mapping drones with thermal and zoom cameras.
Spray drones for pesticides and nutrients, supported by schemes such as SMAM and Namo Drone Didi.
RTK drones for land records, mining, construction and planning.
Surveillance, logistics and counter-drone systems for the armed forces.
A smaller segment of Indian nano and FPV brands and parts suppliers.
If you want a small foldable camera drone for travel or social media, imported models still dominate the choice in India. Indian made camera drones are mostly professional tools: they carry high-quality cameras for inspection, mapping and security, with longer flight times, and they are usually sold on quotation with training. For aerial photography as a business, such as real estate, construction progress or events, an Indian enterprise drone can do the job with local service and spares.
For work drones, these reasons often outweigh brand familiarity.
Since February 2022, India has prohibited importing complete foreign-made drones, with narrow exceptions. Indian made drones avoid that question.
The maker can repair, calibrate and supply parts in India.
Tenders and departments often prefer domestic products.
Indian makers can train your pilots on site, in Indian conditions.
Ask where flight data and images are stored and who can access them.
NVX designs and builds drones in New Delhi: Saksham, an enterprise drone with 55+ minutes of flight, about 15 km range, RTK and a wide, tele and thermal camera with a laser rangefinder; BAAZ, a configurable UAV; and Titli, a bionic butterfly drone for events and gifts (₹50,000 incl. GST). NVX also sells FPV parts and repairs DJI and other drones at its Connaught Place workshop.
