Kisan drone guide
By the NVX engineering team, New Delhi
Kisan drones spray pesticides and nutrients faster and with less exposure for workers than manual methods. Central schemes now share the cost for many buyers, and the Ministry of Agriculture has published SOPs for drone spraying. This guide covers uses, support schemes, rules and upkeep.
Most work is spraying, but uses are widening.
Uniform application with less chemical exposure for the operator.
Liquid fertilisers and micronutrients, including nano fertilisers.
With spreader attachments on suitable drones.
Camera and multispectral imaging to spot stress, pests and water issues.
Drones are also used in schemes such as PMFBY for crop assessment.
Figures below are from PIB releases of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. States may add their own schemes; confirm current amounts and eligibility with your state agriculture department before buying.

Most spray drones are in the small category, so they need a UIN and a pilot with a Remote Pilot Certificate.
The Ministry of Agriculture released an SOP for drone application of pesticides and soil and crop nutrients in December 2021, covering permissions, distances, weather, and before, during and after operation procedures.
Crop-specific SOPs for applying pesticides with drones were released in April 2023.
Use pesticides and doses approved for drone application, and follow the label and the Central Insecticides Board guidance.
Check the Digital Sky map; fields near airports may fall in yellow or red zones.
Spray chemicals are corrosive and fields are dusty. Rinse the tank, pump, lines and nozzles with clean water after every day of spraying; wipe down arms, motors and connectors; inspect propellers for chips; and store batteries at storage charge in a cool, dry place.
